Great piece, Farris. I’m curious to hear where you think the solutions for this debt problem go and how this fits in a world view based upon cooperation. There’s a lot of gaps in addressing past debt, future debt, and the root problem— which I identify as the government guaranteeing predatory loans for predatory tuition.
Thanks Trent! I appreciate you reading, and I'd want to ask the same question to you since you're more of a policywonk than I am :) I just picked up the book Can't Pay, Won't Pay from The Debt Collective and I'm hoping that by the end of it I'll have a better understanding of a way forward.
I suspect my answer for this question is going to have it's answer in reparations: I think we if could take an introspective beat to examine what we *actually* owe one another as humans and neighbors, we'd make strides to both right the evils of the past through the paying of reparations and we'd ensure reparative public goods, financed by all for the good of all: education, healthcare, housing, etc.

What do you think?
“Charity vs mutual aid”…. Loved reading this, Farris. Thank you for the continued insight.
I miss you Dayna! And thank you for always sharing with your neighbors via Comal 864. Your commitment to mutual aid is an absolute gift to Greenville.
